How I got started:
I have to pay tribute to my dad for my creative mentality. Even as a small child, I'd watch him doodle and draw, cut out woodwork, and I loved to watch him cook! (He was a mess sergeant in the National Guard in his younger days.)
Being a former home economics teacher for 30.8 years, I've always loved to cook and experiment with new recipes. My husband didn't mind as long as I had a few things that he could recognize along with the new dishes. When my daughter was 3 years old, I tried my hand at cake decorating. Family & friends have enjoyed my cakes and cake designs for over 25 years now. You can view some of my creations at my Pass The Cake website. I also offer a small catering service for parties, weddings and special events and offer my services as a wedding planner.
I decided to offer my handcrafted & handpainted wood items for sale about 20 years ago after receiving much positive feedback from friends and relatives who had received my products as gifts. Besides cooking, I love to paint! I have a passion for it. Some of my unique LuAbby™ glasses were sold to a gift shop at Holden Beach, NC on consignment. That kept me pretty busy during the summer until Cottage Gifts went out of business in March 2007. Finally, I've mustered the courage to list some of my products & services online to a wider community. You may view some of the vendors of my work with the link on the right. Most of the jewelry pieces are sold by the time they make in online but I can always make more! I'm still doing woodworks and like to create something that is "different" for home decor. Not many ladies like to go into someone else's home and see something just like theirs. We search for something unique! So, that's what I attempt to do. And, although I'd like to say all the ideas are mine... sometimes I see something, sketch it out on paper or in my mind, and go home and make something like it (with my own flair, that is).
Baking and party planning is also a passion of mine. I love designing wedding cakes and special cakes for people. My small catering business has really been booming with weddings, corporate events and birthdays since I retired. I wondered where I found time to do all this before I retired from teaching! I stay busy busy busy all the time... loving every minute of it too! I may have to slow down a notch again once my grandson gets here. :-)
I love going to the beach. Many of my creations are thought up while sitting on the beach or on the pier fishing or gazing down the Intercoastal Waterway, breating in that good ol' salt air in Brunswick County. Thus the name... SaltAir Creations.
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart since 1976 and we have one beautiful daughter (who was married in 2008); we have two dogs and a grand-dog (Sam). I retired from teaching Home Economics in 2008 and have "extra" time now to design new things, do my baking, painting, and go to the beach as often as I can! My husband helps me out with packaging, mailing, and keeping the books. He's also assisted me with a few catering gigs. My lovely daughter helps me with sales & distribution, and offers some of her creative ideas and color schemes. My son-in-law helps with publicity. It's turned out to be a family affair!
I do hope you enjoy my site! Come again, as I'm always adding new items. You're always welcome!
